Every year on March 10, National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is held.

Totality stands with you, female strong!

Fifteen years ago today, the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office on Women’s Health started the National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD). This day is observed all across the nation as a day to advocate, recognize, and educate everyone.

Nearly 1,000,000 people in the United States have been diagnosed with HIV, and 1 out of 4 are women. This year’s NWGHAAD theme is “HIV Prevention Starts with Me: Ending the HIV Epidemic Together.” The goal is to highlight how each and every one of us – women, men, doctors, professionals, communities, those who are HIV-negative, and those who are living with HIV – has the responsibility to join forces in preventing the spread of HIV.

The NWGHAAD team has published some practical steps we all can take to join the fight against HIV/AIDS:

  • Get a free and confidential HIV test
  • Practice safe sex
  • Talk to your doctor before engaging in intercourse with a partner who is living with HIV
  • If you are HIV positive, take your medication regularly and talk with your doctor about healthy habits
  • Visit a doctor immediately if you think you may have been exposed to HIV

You may be wondering… Why is Totality, a vein care, ultrasound imaging, and aesthetic center, writing a blog post about HIV/AIDS awareness? At Totality, we care about YOU. And we stand with our fellow humans in the fight against disease. We support you, we appreciate you, we value you!
