For many years, the primary way to treat varicose veins was to physically remove the vein from the body in a procedure known as vein stripping. Thanks to medical developments and research, this is no longer your only option!! There are now many noninvasive treatment options that will take care of your problem veins.

Varicose vein removal is now easy, virtually pain free, requires no major recovery time, and is noninvasive… a win, win, win, win!

At Totality, we use the latest state-of-the-art technology and medical advancements to treat varicose veins. We focus on three main treatment modalities that have been extensively researched and proven to be very successful with our patients.

1. RadioFrequency Ablation

A RadioFrequency (RF) Ablation uses heat technology to seal the vein. A special catheter with a heating element tip is inserted into the vein. As the catheter is slowly removed from the vein in segments, the heating element damages the walls of the vein to seal it off. In order to make the experience pain free for the patient, local numbing medication is applied to the area surrounding the vein.

An RF ablation is a permanent solution for varicose veins, and has a very high success rate… over 95% success in Totality patients. At Totality, we use Venefit, an FDA-approved RF ablation device. Find out more here.

2. Endovenous Laser Ablation

Endovenous Laser Ablations are similar to RF because both modalities use heat to seal problematic varicose veins. In laser ablations, the heat is created at the very tip of the special catheter by laser energy. The catheter is then slowly removed from the vein in one continuous pull, sealing the vein along the way. Local numbing medicine is applied prior to the heating to ensure the patient’s comfort.

Much like RF ablations, laser ablations have high success rates and are permanent solutions for varicose veins. At Totality, we utilize the highest quality laser technology, Venacure EVLT. Find out more here.

3. Varithena Chemical Ablation

The least invasive method of varicose vein treatment that Totality offers is a chemical ablation with Varithena. Varithena is a foaming chemical that seals the vein off through injection. To complete the procedure, a special IV is inserted into the vein and Varithena is then injected into the vein. The injection is guided by Ultrasound to ensure proper closure of the problematic Varicose Vein.

Unlike laser and RF ablations, no injection of numbing medication is required as the patient does not feel the chemical. While RF and laser technologies require only one treatment to ensure closure, Varithena often requires a second injection to achieve complete closure of problematic varicose veins. Nonetheless, the results of Varithena are permanent, and it is highly effective at treating very torturous or irregular veins. Find out more here.

Aftercare

With all of the varicose vein treatments at Totality, most of your normal activities, including driving, can be resumed immediately following your procedure. Compression hose are worn for a full 72 hours following the procedure. At this point, you will return to Totality for a follow-up ultrasound to ensure proper closure of the varicose vein. After this period, compression hose are worn for two weeks during the day only. Aftercare with Totality varicose vein treatment is simple and straight forward.
